What should I know about Steam Sterilizers...Autoclaves?

The purpose of a sterilizer is to make things Sterile. Sterile means Devoid of Life! An ultra~sonic Cleaner…Cleans things by dislodging particles with sound~waves. It does NOT Sterilize. You require a Steam Sterilizer (Autoclave) for your purposes.

The things you need to consider about steam sterilizers are:

1. Power Source
2. Chamber Size
3. Top Loading vs Front Loading
4. Sterilization Cycle Speed
5. Manual Operation vs. Electronic Operation (Knobs & Switches vs. Computerized Keyboard)
6. New vs. Re-manufactured
7. Future Service
8. Parts & Supplies
9. Spore~Testing
10. Regulatory Compliance
11. Training Regimens
12. Record Keeping
13. Price & Value

The Statim-5000 Cassette Steam Autoclave
Larger than the 2000, the Statim 5000 has an additional sterilization cycle and a roomier cassette designed to process bulkier instruments and greater loads. It's a reliable cassette sterilizer that's compact enough to fit in patient treatment areas and fast enough to sterilize expensive dental handpieces and instruments between procedures - it can complete an unwrapped sterilization cycle in just nine minutes and a wrapped cycle in just 17.5 minutes. The Statim 5000 is also fully automatic. Simply select one of four sterilization programs and with a single touch of the keypad, begin the cycle. An advanced microprocessor controls all functions and maintains optimal sterilization conditions, from start to finish. SciCan's Statim cassette sterilizers have a biological effectiveness that has been proven in tests for hollow and solid instruments at many internationally recognized institutes in Canada, the United States and Europe. * Cycle times do not include drying.

Statim FAQs

Q: What type of water do I use with Statim?

A: Always use steam-distilled water in the Statim Cassette Autoclave. Other water sources will damage the unit and void the warranty.
Q: How do I test the quality of distilled water?

A: If purchasing distilled water, SciCan recommends using a water conductivity tester (SciCan part no. 01-103139S) to check for impurities.
Q: How do I prepare instruments for use with Statim?
A: Thoroughly wash, rinse, and dry all instruments before inserting into the Statim.
Q: How often do I clean the interior and exterior of the cassette?

A: Keeping the Statim cassette clean is good clinical practice. The interior surface of the cassette should be cleaned at least once a week with a mild, chlorine-free dishwashing soap. To promote quick drying, we recommend spraying the cassette lid and tray with Stat-Dri after each cleaning. For detailed instructions concerning cassette cleaning and the use of Stat-Dri, see the Statim Operator's Manual.

Q: What do I do if steam or a puddle of water is detected during or after a cycle?
A: If steam or a puddle of water is detected during or after a cycle, check the cassette seal. This problem may be corrected by doing the following:

a) Replacing the seal if it is older than six months or has been used for more than 500 cycles.
b) Cleaning the outside edge of the tray.
c) Checking the seal for damage and/or misalignment.

Q: What if I receive an error code?

A: If the LCD displays a NOT STERILE message, note the error code and consult the Troubleshooting section of your Operator's Manual.

Q: Do I need to ensure that the Statim is level before operating?

A: Yes. Before operating your Statim autoclave, make sure it rests on a flat and level surface. If you are uncertain, the level indicator on the front panel and leveler feet underneath the unit will help you correct any problems. (Align the bubble in the level indicator to the right front quadrant of the target.)

Q: What do I do if my Statim has not been run for several days?

A: If you do not operate your Statim autoclave for several days, run two wrapped instrument cycles. Conduct a thorough cassette cleaning and rinse, and apply Stat-Dri to the cassette tray and lid after cleaning.

Q: How should I drain the reservoir?

A: To empty the reservoir, use the drain tube. If your Statim does not have a drain tube, a hand pump will suffice. Except when filling or emptying the reservoir, keep the reservoir cap securely fastened at all times.
Q: What should I do if the Statim is on, but not in use?

A: If your Statim is powered ON but not in use, pull the cassette 1-2cm out of the unit. This will make the unit inactive until the cassette is reinserted and will prolong the life of your unit.
Q: How do I recognize whether my filter(s) needs replacement?

A: Monitor the white air filter and the bacteria-retentive filter at the back of the unit. A dirty filter will cause poor drying. If the filter has turned gray, it is in need of replacement (see the maintenance section of the Operator's Manual).

Q: How do I transport my Statim?

A: Whenever you need to transport your Statim, make sure you empty the water reservoir and screw-in the feet. Repack your Statim in the original packing materials to reduce any damage, and don't forget to include the country kit, cassette and waste water bottle.

Are there any Baskets, Pails or Dressing Drums for Vertical Sterilizers?

Three different types of stainless steel containers of different heights (large, medium and small) are available for handling different loads. Stacking shorter containers can increase load capacity (two medium-sized and three small-sized containers can fit in a given chamber). A mesh wire basket is suitable for most loads, including glassware and media. A pail is used for media and Petri dishes with liquid in them as well as to contain potential spillage from waste bags. A drum has a hinged lid with a handle. Depending on the load, it serves as a closed (but not watertight) trash container or as a carrying and storage case. The side and bottom of the drum are perforated for better steam penetration. Sliding panels cover these perforations prior to and after sterilization. Two round stainless steel tube racks, either with capacity for sixty 20-mm or ninety 13-mm tubes per rack, are also available. You can stack the tube racks by putting them inside the accessory containers.

Is there a Portable, Vertical Sterilizer Autoclave for Laboratories & Hospitals?

Tomy ES-215 and ES-315 Autoclaves
with Delayed Start Timer and Warming Cycle are completely self-contained, compact, and portable. They roll right to your workbench to give you fast, effective sterilization of media, glassware, instruments, and disposables - on the spot and on your schedule. The ES Series Autoclaves also feature three cycles of operation and Graphic Process Display.

The ES-215 and ES-315 Autoclaves provide convenient processing of your laboratory sterilization and media preparation needs. These functional autoclaves offer three cycles of operation ranging from basic sterilization cycles to automatic warming cycles.
The eight hour warming cycle featured in the Tomy ES Series Autoclaves may be used directly following a sterilization cycle or independently to melt and keep sterile media ready for use.
To increase your convenience, these cycles may be programmed up to 99 hours in advance using the Delayed Start Timer. This feature enables you to have sterile media on hand and ready for use when you need it.
Tomy Autoclaves also spare you the initial installation costs associated with the plumbing and hard wiring of conventional autoclaves because they are portable. Just plug in the power cord, add water, and let the self-contained steam generator and venting system do the rest.
Tomy's vertical loading autoclaves accommodate a wide range of items. Small items like petrie dishes and test tubes are easily accommodated in the stacking baskets while large items like a fermenter or a 25 liter carboy may are also available for sterilizing liquids. To ensure your safety and complete sterilization, Tomy Autoclaves are equipped with independent temperature and pressure monitoring system.
Programmable Control Panel

Operation is very easy. Just select the cycle and set the temperature and time. The rest is automatic. A graphic display and audible alarm let you know the process and completion of the operation.
